Do ballet dancers ever work on flat shoe?

A growing body of contemporary ballet choreography, performed by world-class ballet companies, is done in ballet slippers and even, at times, in bare feet. Choreographers of such works include William Forsythe, Matthew Bourne, Ohad Naharin, Lar Lubovitch, Nacho Duato and Jirí Kylián.

As others have said, even members of classical ballet companies continue to take much of their technique classes in slippers.

Yes, when you first start at ballet, you dance in flat shoes. After some time (you have to be over 11) you start pre-pointe, which is practicing for the pointe. After that you do the pointe.|||yes when you first start ballet, you use the ballet pumps :-)|||Yes of course, I am en pointe, and I still dance of flat shoes for master class, and some classes.|||yes. i wear the ballet slippers (or flat shoes) to better my technique, but i also am en pointe. its better to do both.|||yes. as a student you do, and even though professionals usually wear pointe shoes, there are some dances where they wear flat shoes. usually those are more contemporary pieces though, but a lot more ballet companies are starting to be more contemporary now|||sure we do. some studios have sepeareta ballet and pointe classes, and a lot fo the companies i've worked with, etc. have done half class in flat shoes, half en pointe.|||Yes, it's hard to work on technique when your in pointe shoes. So I use canvas ballet shoes all the time. You have to be atleast 11 (sometimes older if your teacher sees fit) to wear pointe shoes. The reason for that is if your ankles aren't fully developed and strong your more likely to slip or fall and possibly break an ankle.|||Of course and whoever said not professional dancers is wrong because I am a professional and I know that I work on a flat shoe also. Usually you don't do performances on a flat shoe but in class you work in a flat shoe.|||yup..if ur lyk 11 u start pre pointe then go on pointes at 12-13
