For slippers, a criss cross from approximately one inch from the heel to the seam is my personal preference.

are you using double or single elastic? either way, fold down the back of the shoe, two little darts will stick up, like folded corners, attach one end of the elastic there, just under the drawstring, otherwise it gets stuck and rips out. if youre using single elastic, after you attach one end, put the shoe on and pull it as tight as you need it, and then attach the other end on the other corner. if youre using double elastic, bring the second side to the side seam of the shoe and attach it there. repeat on the other side. you may want to use dental floss, it goes through ballet shoes easier than thread. also, if your studio doesn't require you to sew them, they'll be fine without it, honestly. i don't sew mine. if they have partially attached lesatic, you can tie it.
