Ballet school for an 11 year old?
My 11 year old has got it into her head that she wants to go to ballet school. She's been dancing for many years and does have talent. Her ballet teacher has reccomended a few to us but they're all residential.
I honestly can't bear the thought of my daughter going to boarding school- I want her at home with me but at the same time, I don't want to keep her from her dream- what on earth can we do?

As a mum, I can understand your dilema. On the one hand you feel your daughter is probably far too young to be away from home but on the other hand, if it's her dream you probably feel you should do everything you can to support her. I guess it's a case of how much she is committed to her dancing.
I have a friend whos daughter is at an excellent ballet school (Royal Jnr) and lives away from home only coming back on the occassional weekend and holidays. Its a hard life for those parents but even harder for the kids as they are really put through their paces big time. Perfection is the be all and end all.
I know my daughters friend suffers from low self-esteem and phones home crying a lot which is very difficult to cope with. She has considered taking her out many times but her little girl is so dedicated and wants to be there despite the tears. The teachers have said that she can be on the phone crying to mum the one minute and the very next, she is smiling and laughing with her friends- meanwhile my friend is at home worried sick!
