Carnival is kind of about a circus, it has a harlequin which is like a clown. you could also be thinking of Pétrouchka (or Petrushka) is kinda similiar to piniocio in that it has a kinda a puppet that has feelings and loves, but it has a scene at the end with clowns and kinda a circus so that could be it. It also has a lot of story line. Hope this helped!
