What is the chalk ballet dancers use for their shoes?

There's always like a little box of some kind of chalk that ballet dancers used with their pointe shoes... I would assume to keep the shoes from slipping on the floor.

it's called rosin. it helps dancers not slip. it can be used on pointe shoes or normal shoes. it's a beautiful concept.|||Rosin.

It's a total pirouette-saver.|||Rosin- its not slip powder/chalk kinda stuff. most dancers use it when they are adapting to a new floor or if it is just really slippery.|||it's not chalk, it's called rosin. it does help the shoes from slipping on the floor and such|||Its rosin, it can be powder or rock form. I just use sidewalk chalk, seriously, it all comes from the same base product. I would fold a peice of paper, throw in a stick of chalk and crush it with my pointe shoes.
