I think you might like 'Asleep at the Wheel'

not massively progressive but in a very steep tradition of Texas Swing - where jazz and country meet

if that works, go backwards in time to Bob WIlls and his Texas Playboys

Also try Junior Brown, Hank Williams III,

maybe you might like some Americana or jam bands

I'd suggest listening to Hank Williams III, he sings REAL country music, not cookie cutter stuff. Very talented like his grandfather was.
