What do you think is BETTER in music?...?shows opera theater
well i think complex bands like Pink Floyd etc should be much respected than simple bands like Elvis
but that they make an equal contribution to musical development|||Green Day rocks|||Definitely the talent it takes to create a unique sound and have good lyrics is far superior in my eyes. I have so much admiration for bands/solo artists that write all their own music and don't care if it is commercial or not. In my younger days you really only had bands that did their own stuff but now nearly all is created for the market.|||Dream theater's a talented bunch though the Canadian trio from the seventies called RUSH paved the way to 'progressive rock'. You better listen to classic artists like the group YES ( also 70's era)---they make 'surreal' songs and are absolutely true musicians------not posers like most mutants on MTV!|||old greenday, like the ramones, simple, but not just catchy, its the drive, the energy - but i'd take the pixies over both. its not just catchy or simple, its how tight the the unison of the ensemble is, and yeah variations and transitions and a unique sound add to fluidity and energy - i admire both types of talent you described rolled together in one. each seperately are a thing i can admire if well-executed, but whats m o r e admirable is combining catchiness, precision and drive with musical complexity and versatility, expressive voice, lyrics as well|||to me, examples of great music from past and present: Miles Davis, Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley, Marvin Gaye, Sade, George Benson, Jack Johnson, The Eagles, Toto, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Ben Harper, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Diana Ross & The Supremes, Al Green, Keziah Jones, America, Wes Montgomery, Prince, George Duke, Al Jarreau, Anita Baker, Anthony Hamilton, Bill Withers, Joshua Redman, Raul Midon, Luther Vandross, The Temptations etc.|||I think John Lee Hooker is a good example of what you are saying. It's all in the rhythm. Without rhythm, it's nothing! Technical skill's okay, but a lot of doodlydoodling doesn't do it for me!|||True talent does it for me - if "anyone" can play it, have you really accomplished anything? That's disposable. Anyone can strum guitars and play with lots of volume while wearing lots of eyeliner. I'd rather hear what actual music students can play to know how many possibilities exist.
