Emerald rom won't save? Clock based events won't occur?

I recently downloaded Pokemon Emerald onto my **Macbook Laptop**, but I haven't been able to get it to save. Last night it saved for the first time, so I thought I was in the clear. But when I exited the game and restarted it again, it said the same thing. "The eternal battery has run dry, clock based events will no longer occur" and then it asks me to start a new game.

That leads me to my next question. How do I get the clock based events to start happening? I know that a lot of pokemon only show up at night, so I wouldn't be able to finish the game if I don't have a working clock.

So in short-

1) How can I get it to save? I downloaded a patch, but...It doesn't work, still.

2) Is there a way to get my game to work with the clock based events?

Use the save states via the emulator rather than the integrated save feature, they should be pretty easy to find/use via the menus. You won't be able to do timed events unfortunately.
