Events leading to US Civil War?!?!?!?
I need examples of nationalism and sectionalism during the Antebellum period (pre-civil war). Need ASAP for a project. Please help!!
Events leading to US Civil War?!?!?!?pacific theaterThe Northern states began to force trade issues with the Southern states. The agricultural Southern states had cotton and the industrial Northern states had steel. The South needed steel for their construction needs and the North needed cotton for their manufacturing processes. The South got a better offer for their cotton from Great Britain than the North.
England had steel to provide to the South and at a better price... so the Southern preference was do business with the Brits, who just so happened to like the quality of the Southern cotton. But the North wanted that cotton for their needs. This angered the North to the point that tariffs were imposed by the government on the British imports, forcing higher prices than originally agreed to. It started the disagreement based on individual States rights to conduct commerce and trade however and with whoever they desired to without interference from the Feds.
Secession was an option that all states had and these actions were forcing the Southern states hand.
This is what led up to the Civil War.

Cotton. The North wanted it, and the South was selling it to Europe at a better price. Not nice to say no to a Yankee!
Slavery was the smokescreen, but racial prejudice by the North during and after the war, and their recanting on Sherman's War Order granting land to freed slaves (and the return of that land to the original plantation owners in order to grow cotton) showed their hand.
They wanted cheap cotton, and they were willing to slaughter hundreds of thousands of people to get it.
