Father in law died 7/31/06. I know I have 9 months to file his tax return, but can i file extension?
I would like to file an extension for him & his solely owned consulting business so I have more time to finalize (and find) his records. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a question for your attorney or tax attorney or CPA|||The only return due 9 months after death is an estate tax return Form 706 if his assets were over 2 million. Otherwise his 1040 can be extended to 10/15. His 1040 income stopped on date of death. Post death income goes on a 1041 if he had a probate estate or trust.
