i am considering an extension and want to know the depth required for my foundations. it is a small extension replacing a consevatory.

It depends on the ground, but you'll likely be looking at 600mm from the ground level to the top of your concrete footings - so you need to go deeper to pour 200mm concrete.
Could be more, depends on the substrate. I've done one just last year at 600mm but in previous years I've been 8 feet down !
