Help me! Home Office hold my passport and documents while i was interviewed for marriage extension?

I am student and i get married with a phillipino one week ago. I am living in uk from last 3 years. I got student visa while my wife got indefinate. I applied for the change of status from student to married person with two years leave to remain. The home office officer ask me for the application and my bank statement and marriage certificate, after checking my records in his computer he went backside and phone to someone then after he told me that unfortunatly he is holding my file while he gave back the passport of my wife. When i ask so many times what is the reason, he did'nt give my clear answer said that someone is investigating my case already and he have to hold my documents. He said that that someone will contact u on phone of write me a letter regarding the application. my wife is 20 year older than me, he ask her r u married before? which she denied. Can someone help me whats the reason behind to hold my documents and does it affect my student status in case of refusal.

Oh dear, they may think you are trying to fraudulently trying to stay in this country by marrying someone who holds a full visa. They may be suspicious because your wife is 20years older than you. If you still have your student visa then there's no reason why you can't stay but you'll have to see an immigration officer for the full details of what's happening.
