How can I stop my cat urinating in my newly built extension?
she has a cat flap which she uses on occassion but has suddenly taken to urinating and once soiling in on the concrete in the new extension. we have tried boxing it off and this works to a point and she will go outside to do her business, but when she is able to sneak through we fing she has urinated in the same place everytime.
We have tried pepper, strong oils(she doesn't like Olbas Oil) and have tried putting things over the spot but she just urinates nearest she can to it.
Please help, as don't want to put flooring down for it to get wrecked by cat pee!!!!
How can I stop my cat urinating in my newly built extension?ms stressCats find it comforting to be surrounded by their own scent, which is why they like to rub their cheeks against furniture and doorways around the home. However, urination is a much quicker and stronger method of spreading their own scent. Being creatures of habit, they don't like changes and your newly built extension may not smell like "home" to her, so she may be scent marking it, to show that it's part of her territory.
Whether it was a genuine accident or not the first time she urinated there, unless you thoroughly eradicate all traces of her scent, she will return to "top it up" every time it begins to fade. The Celia Haddon Cat Problem page has a really good article about removing cat urine from all kinds of flooring, including cement, wood etc., which may help you.
