How can a 14-year-old in LA be involved with the AKC junior handlings events?

I've read this, but I'm a little confused. The site is hard for me to navigate.

I don't have a purebred [at least registered. he's a rescue] dog, nor am I going to be getting a puppy any time son.

I would just like to know when/where/if it's possible for me to be assigned for handling classes in the summer?

What other ways can I be involved with the AKC. Do I need a dog to participate? I know that I cannot join the events like agility and dog shows, etc, but I would like to join in and educate myself about those things...

Actually you could do many different events..one of them being Rally...and they do have events for the different mixed breeds...you could go to your local AKC club...you can find that at the AKC website...

and you can "volunteer" if you are not able to participate with a dog...or you can also simply go and observe the different shows...many ways to learn even if you do not have a papered pure breed dog...
