How can i find wether a file is a spyware/adware/virus by its FILE TYPE or FILE EXTENSION(e.g. .exe
In my opinion, the best way is to search the database maintained by your antivirus and antispyware companies. The next best way would be to Google the file. If you just go by the file type or the file extension, you could be easily fooled into thinking there's nothing to worry about. Or, you could be fooled into thinking you have a virus, etc. Viruses, spyware, etc. are designed to look like legitimate applications.
For example, CRSS.EXE is a well known Trojan. But there's also a legitimate Microsoft file with the same name that's part of the Microsoft Client/Server Runtime Server Subsystem and it's used to create or delete windows (screens) and threads. If you have two files on your computer with the same name, one good and one bad, can you be absolutely sure which one to delete? That's why it's so important to have antivirus, antispyware, etc. programs installed, kept up to date, and that you use them.
