How do I know which program would play the file extension I have?

After joining files with an extension .001, .002 and so on, I'm not sure which program I should use in order to play those files. Whenever I double click on the file it just takes me to another site which says that the extension of the file is not recognizable. I used the HJSplit program to join the extensions together...

Those files look like RAR archives. If you get yourself a copy of winrar over at: http://www.rarlab.com/ or a free unrar'er then you just open the file in your unRARer & voila
