How do i ADD an extension to a file that HAS NO extension?

I just downloaded a 'video' from the internet. And I wanted to upload it to photobucket but photobucket wouldn't let me upload it because it has no valid extension. So I went to convert the extension.

BUT, I checked this site:

http://www.zamzar.com/

And it told me the file had NO extension. So how do I add one?

Bring up Windows Explorer (or My Computer), navigate to where the file is, -right- click on it and select Rename, then type in the file name (including the extension you want). Make sure the file is actually the same type as the extension you're adding to it.

Is the icon of the file the standard "Unknown Windows File" - that flag? If so, right click on the file, click rename and add the proper extension. The extension is a dot "." followed by three or more characters.

The most common extensions for video files are: ".avi", ".mpg", ".wmf", ".mov" . Just try to remember what kind of file that was.

there are a lot of convertors on the net that will convert the existing file type ( any extension ) to the type you want like from .mpg to .mp3 and so on.
