i just started listening to them on Sirius radio.. how long have they been around.

Dream Theater formed at Berklee College of Music in '85. The original lineup was Portnoy, Petrucci, Myung, Moore, and Chris Collins. However, for their 89 debut, "When Dream and Day Unite," their lead singer was Charlie Dominici.

In 91 they let Labrie on as singer, and the band has been pretty much the same since. The only difference is that they Moore quit in 94, Derek Sherinian joined the same year, but in 99 Jordan Rudess joined, forming the DT we know today.

Dream Theater have been together since 1985. The band was called Majesty when they first got together.

First album was released in 1989.
