I-551 extension stamp question?

I have a problem. i filed form I-751 in March 07 ( application to remove conditional status from your greencard ). My greencard expired but they gave me a 1 year extension due to my application pending. the I-751 usually takes 1 year but due to a huge increase in applications the service center was way behind so now after 1 year and 1 months without working my case they transferred it to the california service center who are known to work cases a lot faster. so they told me it'll be 180 days since my case was transferred ( 4-02-2008 ) until i could expect a desicion. now my actual question is i'm gonna need the I-551 extension stamp in my passport. do i need to get it before my 1 year extension expires or afterwards and if i need it before when do i need to make the infopassappointment?? my 1 yr exention expires june 16th and i wasnt sure when to make the info pass appointment.
