I cut completely through the cord, is the outlet ruined? I've attempted to reset it but nothing seems to work. Is it fried and needs rewiring?
I sliced through my extension cord while trimming hedges now the outlet doesn't work...need rewiring?globe theaterNo need to fret. Cutting completely through the cord as a live circuit was passing through caused a short in the circuit and tripped a breaker or blew a fuse. easy fix. find your electrical panel, and look for either a breaker that has an orange slip showing through one of the clear plastic pieces on each breaker, cause that one is shorted, or go through each of them and you are looking for either a 15 or a 20 amp breaker that is either in a middle position. you should be able to push it towards "on" and it should bounce back to the middle position, thats how you know you've tripped that breaker. you must first turn that breaker to the "off" position then flip it on and your circuit (as long as you have the correct breaker) should be as good as new. if you have fuses then thats relitively easy. look for the blown fuse (blackened glass is usually a great indicator that a fuse is blown) and replace it with the same amp fuse. now for the cord...thats a difference story ;)

When you say "reset", do you mean the outlet has a little button on it? If that doesn't work, be sure to try the actual breaker box that controls that outlet. If that doesn't fix it, yes, you probably need a new outlet.
Be sure to turn off the breaker box if you DO re-wire it!|||Is your outlet on a breaker by itself. Maybe you just tripped a breaker and need to switch it back on.|||you probably popped the fuse or breaker in the main box check there|||There is probablly a safety feature on your outlet so that it doesn't cause electricution. Check your breakers and fuses.|||sounds like you popped the breakers. Reset them by turning them all the way off and then all the way back on.
