If a file has no extension, how do I find out what file type it is?
The files I am trying to open are old ones, created on a G3 mac in 1990, and last opened in 1994.
They have no extensions, but are databases and disply scrambled text in every program (whether it is a database, spreadsheet ot text editor program), and they have suddenly become very important to me. I have no idea what to do.
Evidently, they were created in MS Works 3.0, but it will not open them.
If a file has no extension, how do I find out what file type it is?paramount theaterImportant: MS Works for MAC and Windows can (usualy) result in different format.
The MAC file can be viewd with resource editor (on mac), that will tell you everything about the kind of contents so you can have a clue what to do next.
If you're sure that this is MS Works -- try to download converters MS Works for MAC-- to anything possible. Or try openoffice.
