the answer to this question could become kinda complex....
there will be people saying "get a boss metal zone" or "get a digitech metal master" or something, but thats like saying "get a pepsi" or "get a coke"... they're gonna do the same job, just with a slightly different flavor, and some people like one better than the other, while some people couldnt care which one they have.
but, what i CAN tell you, is that you should make sure that the pedal you get goes well with the amp you're using. you listed the bands you like, and traditionally they've all used TUBE AMPS. tube amps have vacuum tubes that give you your crunch sound by creating POWER. when you listen to old sabbath or zeppelin or maiden, there's not any kind of pedals involved there other than the occasional wah pedal or delay or something, but that "distortion" sound is actually just good old fashioned tube power.
