I have Parkinsons Disease. I have been told that it would be advantageous for me to do stretching exercises, especially the ones that promote extension rather than flexion because Parkinsons promotes too much flexion of the body and arms

All of them. When you flex one side of a joint, the other side extends. Just stay away from the weights. If you use them, you are emphasizing the flexing.

My guess is that if you contacted a local college, their P.E./Kinesiology department would be happy to work up a stretching routine which is suitable for you specific needs, and they would do it for free.

She works with people who are looking to lose weight, gain flexibility, get mobile from a few diseases, I'm not sure if Parkinsons is one that's mentioned. Once you get past the 80's hair/makeup and awful background music she plays, it's really a wonderful exercise program. You'll hurt the first few times you do it, but thats ok. Do what you can. And she shows other ways the exercises can be performed if you can't do it the way she does it. I definitely recommend it for you. It's called Callanetics.
