I'm 19, is it too late to get into ballet?

People are always telling me I should try ballet. I have pretty decent legs and I can really point my toes super far. I like to dance and I have a little bit of experience in hip hop and some modern. But I've never really tried ballet, it just didn't appeal to me. My dance instructor told me I had a perfect body for it and he says I am wasting my natural talent. He also says I have great feet and he is pushing me to give it a try. But is it too late? I don't really want to dance for fun, I want to dance as a career and I have heard you must get into ballet early. Someone give me some advice! What are my odds?

Girls are already dancing professionally at your age. Ballet technique is not an overnight thing, neither is getting strong enough for pointe work. And if you've never been interested in ballet, why throw countless hours into something you don't really like doing? A lot of the girls that end up in companies are total bunheads--live and breathe ballet.
