Is it ever too late to register a dog??

I know I posted this again but I just wanted a few more answers.

I got my Weimaraner back when I had no clue about the big wide dog world out there. I did have AKC papers but I didn't send them in. I kept them though. "Indi" is 3 and half years old now and I just got into obedience and agility about year and half ago. When it came to us being good enough to participate in competition, I then learned that Indi had to be registered with the AKC in order to compete in AKC sanctioned events. DARNIT... I wish I would've just got it over with when he was a puppy. I don't know why I didn't, I guess I just didn't know. I thought registration was only for show dogs. Boy was I wrong.

Both of Indi's parents are registered and I requested new duplicate papers which I just sent yesterday with a hefty late fee. I would just like to know is it ever too late to register a dog and am I going to get a letter back in the mail saying I can't register Indi????
