Is it too late to be tested?
Hi there! I had a perinatologist appointment last week to determine if my baby boy has cystic fibrosis. My fiance and I are both carriers for the disease, so that's why I got sent to see this doctor. Anyway, I went to the appointment and the doctor said he doesn't think that my boy has cystic fibrosis based on the ultrasound.
Anyway, I've been reading up about it, and everything I find says that you CAN NOT diagnose a baby as having or not having CF by means of an ultrasound!! This has made me soo mad, because I went to that appt thinking I was going to get a clear cut answer, and now I feel like that doctor was stupid.
The only ways I know of how to see if he has the disease is through CVS or Amnio. However, most sites say they usually do the amnio around 20 weeks, and I'm now 33 weeks.
Does anyone know if it's too late in the game to request the test to be performed? I don't see my reg ob/gyn until the 24th of Oct when I'll be 35 weeks. Any help would be great!! Thanks!
Is it too late to be tested?performing showWhen both parents carry the CF gene, there is a 25% chance (1 in 4) that their child will have CF. There is a 50-50 chance that the child will be a carrier like the parents. And there is a 25% chance that the baby will not have the gene—not a carrier and not have the disease.
