Is it too late to teach our dog some "manners"?

We have a 2 1/2 year old lab mix and since we got her as a puppy we've had a heck of a time training her. She's VERY hyper and now as an adult dog, very strong, so she's hard to control. We have 2 children (8 and 3) who would love to play with her, but can't because she unintentionally hurts them being too rough. Is it too late to train her not to jump up on people and if not, how can we do that? We've thought about obedience classes for her, but frankly she's so wild it would be very hard to get her to those classes. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

It is never too late to train your dog, and Im sure you can find some beginner classes to take her to.

Sounds like she is the boss of the house, no one else has taken a leadership role.

She needs to understand that she is not the leader of the pack.

Start with some basic obiedience (if you havnt yet) sit, stay, down, come.

Make her work for her food, she does not get a meal until she sits patiently first.

My 14wk puppy will wait with her bowl in front of her for as long as I make her, and will only eat when I say ok.

As for the jumping, the whole family must be consistent with this (with all training really). When she jumps up pull up your knee and push it into her chest (not hard, just to get her off) and say "OFF!" or "DOWN!" (we use 'off' because 'down' is for laying down)
