Late surgery for detached retina?
My 22 y.o. nephew damaged his retina last year. Unfortunately he left it for almost four months before seeing doctor. Three months ago he had surgery to repair tiny hole. He is awaiting the outcome – doctors told him it may take six months for improvement.
However the doctors also said that there was little hope of a full recovery because late treatment meant that the damage was already too far gone. He is not experiencing any improvement yet and is getting very depressed that the blurred vision spots will be permanent.
Have others had this problem? Is there any hope of improvement or other surgery?

Unfortunately he waited a long time before getting treatment. Nothing is absolute but i doubt that any significant improvement will occur.|||There is very little hope because he waited so long. When the retina detaches, it doesn't get the nutrients necesary to keep the retinal tissue healthy. After his repair he probably formed scarring on the retina. Scarring on the retina acts similar to a scar on your arm. No hair will grow in the scar. In the retina, the scarred area will not be able to transmit signals of light to the brain.
