My bath tub keeps getting clogged and drain-o works for a week and then we have to go buy more.?

My boyfriend is an artsit and *used* to pour a lot of paints and such down the drain. He doesn't anymore, but the countless countainers of drain-o seem to be doing less and less good. Sometimes he will shower at 6:30am, and by the time I need to shower [sometimes as late as 5pm] - it is STILL backed up. I tried pulling the plug out to break some of the junk up myself, but I can't. Any suggestions besides drain-o....it's getting so costly.

if he was pouring water based paint down the drain it should have no impact on the drain. Liquid Plumber and Draino. (laughs, slaps knee) Might as well pour bleach down it. What you need is this, find a PROFESSIONAL type drain cleaner. Meaning, it contains either concentrated or virgin sulphuric acid. It will and does dissolve ANYTHING organic. I'm guessing it's an accumulation of hair in the drain. Bathtubs are famous for this.

Home Depot, Lowe's, Menards, should carry it, the brand I generally get is called "FlowEasy" about $8 a bottle. I'd also suggest investing in a different strainer cover for your tub, something with finer holes that is more likely to catch the hair. Short of shaving your head, there aren't to many sure fire fixes for hair clogs. But this is one of them.
