These homeschooled teens lack social skills....and are slow.....is it too late to help them?

My boyfriend has 15 year old twin boys. He gets them every other weekend. His mother homeschools them and they are very slow. They also lack social skills altogether. They have never participated in anything extra cirricular and their reading levels are way below par. He says that it is too late to help them and that they will never lead normal lives or go to college. When they come over...they go back to their room with their 12 year old brother (who he has full custody of) and they all play video games non stop. We got into a fight because I feel like it is not too late and that he just doesn't care enough....he says he knows them better than me and to drop it. Is it too late for them? Is everyone supposed to just sit back and watch them become adult coach pototoes while they collect welfare for the rest of their lives?

You are judging homeschooling by your boyfriend's kids?

She probably isn't homeschooling them at all but is reporting to the state that she is. The state is supposed to do random checks to make sure they are but it's the state so probably doesn't happen. You need to look at statistics as opposed to your bf's kids. Statistically homeschooled kids do far better than public school kids. They graduate faster and enter college early. They generally score the highest on state exams and are all around smarter when they are actually being homeschooled.
