Very Strange.. sad meowing late at night, Ideas why?

My 3 yr old Russian Blue cat Smoque has gotten this habit of meowing really deep and mournful like. Since his brother passed away this past late summer. Do you think its possible its sadness? I mean he plays normal specially with our 3 month old new addition, eats fine, stinks up the cat box like clockwork and no other health problems but the meowing late at night, it always starts at like midnight and its only a couple of times and he only does it Downstairs where we found his brother who had died in his sleep. Im not really worried just more curious as to what ppl think. And please save the stupid answers for a stupid question. This isnt one of them.

Its wierd, one of my cats do that too lately. It's only in the middle of the night when no one is around. Sometimes I hear her meowing like yours does when I am laying in bed upstairs. Sometimes I yell for her to come upstairs and she comes, others she doesn't come and continues meowing. When she doesn't come I usually go downstairs to bring her to bed with me and pet her, giving her attention. After that she doesn't meow the rest of the night. I don't think she would be lonely because mine has 3 other kitties living with her.

Maybe yours just wants attention?
