When does late payment fall off credit report?

I currently have a credit card which shows that I was 30 days past due at one point. The question is when does it fall off my credit report? The report currently shows 24 on time payments (2 years) and the bank states there record does not show that i was ever late (which i was back in 2000). How do I go about getting it off my report? the bank advised me to speak with experian (which by the way is the only bureau showing i was late). Also if the bank does not have a record showing a late payment for the last 2 years, why can't they contact experian with this matter. If nothing can be done because the account is still active, would cancelling it out and waiting seven years be an option?

6 years, sorry mate!! we've all been in the same boat!! you cant get rid of it either!|||Well, if you dispute it as "never late" it may fall off within 30-35 days. If you don't it will stay on for about 7 years.
