When is it too late to ask a girl to prom?

My senior prom is May 30th and I really want to ask this girl who's a junior. Spring break's next week so I won't be seeing her and right now she's out of town for some youth conference or convention or something. If I ask her after break resumes, somewhere around the 23rd is that too late for her to get things ready like a dress and stuff?

Should I do it next week online or on the phone or through texting or is that just too lame?
