Will a few late payments on my credit cards affect my getting a job?

I am just wondering if anybody know if some late payments on my credit will affect my getting a job. I was offered a really great job, but they are now doing a background check before I can start. I have a long work history with good references, proof I graduated from college, and no criminal history. The only thing I am worried about is my credit, I do not have the worst credit but I do show some late payments. I lost my base pay at my current job, and things have been tight. I do not have anything in collections or anything just some lates and one dispute. Can anyone help? The company doing the background check said it could take 2 to 5 weeks to finish so I am stressing out this. Thanks

I would call the companies that reported you late and ask them to remove it. Talk to a supervisor, not the people that initially answer the phone. Tell the supervisor exactly what you just told us and see what he/she can do for you.

It shouldn't, most americans have missed several payments. What they are looking for are signs that you are grossly unreliable (multiple bankruptcies, non payment of child support, crippling levels of debt, foreclosure). You're fine. It shouldn't take them 2-5 weeks though; these checks are fast (you can get a credit report and a criminal background check in <1day).
