Hi, I posted a question a few days ago saying that after taking a months break from my contraceptive pill I was 16 days late for my period. However I had practiced safe sex with my boyfriend and made sure to use condoms and I have since taken a pregnancy test which was negative.
I got very helpful answers back saying that it was probably just my hormones were out of whack and how I should start my pill again to get my system back to normal.
However after reading the instructions on the box it says you must start your pill on your first day of your period, which I haven’t had yet...so now im totally confused!! If I take them with out being on my period will I not have full contraceptive cover? But then again is it the only way to get my system back to normal??
My period has still not arrived and now I am 19 days late. Any help or advise would be much appreciated.

The hormones in the pill are tied to the hormones released in your body around the time of menstruation. That's why they tell you to start it on the first day of your period (and sometimes on the first Sunday after your period).
It is common to have missed periods, shorter periods and longer periods immediately after stopping the pill. If you've already verified that you are not pregnant, you will simply have to wait until your period starts again.

The only logical answer, is to call your doctor. I was told to start the pills anyway, but use backup for the first month, but everybody is different, so I would call the doctor.
