Playstation 3 HDMI TV audio out problem?
I cannot get audio through my home theater system speakers via an HDMI cable for my PS3. My reciever is just a mini "home theater" nothing to write home about. However, my PS3 is hooked up directly into my TV through an HDMI cable. I get audio through my TV, but not my speakers. I realize that HDMI needs to go through an audio reciever then to the TV for surround, but I simply don't have that kind of equipment. Is there a way I can use HDMI picture quality and send the audio a different way into my reciever? I'd like the sound to come through my speakers. I'm looking for some kind of cheap fix if at all possible and I realize that I won't be doing the audio proper justice. is there a converter of sorts or something of that nature that I can use?
Playstation 3 HDMI TV audio out problem?the grand theaterHere's what I've done, I've connected the HDMI to my Television which has HDMI inputs, my stereo equipment however, is a little older, and therefore does not have any HDMI inputs. I've connected my PS3 to the HDMI to my TV. I've connected the audio output from the PS3 via toslink (fibre, digital audio) to my stereo, and made sure to select on the PS3 that the audio out goes through the toslink connection. I get full digital audio out Dolby Digital, plus the picture quality of 1080p w/HDMI.
If you have an optical audio input on your stereo equipment try this method, if you don't then, you'll need to look into the purchase of a new receiver setup.
