when i turn on my home theater system for sound when watchin tv, the sound is lagged a little. the tv sound and the speakers from the home theater sound is off. is it because im using cheap wires? both tv and home theater are new
Why does my sound lag?violinYour 'cheap wires' have absolutely nothing to do with the problem. All electric signals travel through wires at the speed of light, which, over short distances like these, is essentially instantaneous.
It's likely the delay is being caused by some digital sound processing being performed by your home theater receiver. You could try turning off any DSP features on your receiver.
Another possible cause is if you receive the audio and video from separate sources. For example, if you get your video over digital cable or satellite, but pick up the audio over the air (for local stations), that could cause a very noticeable delay in the sound. You could also experience a delay from the opposite cause, where you receive your video signals over the air but receive your audio from satellite or cable.
If you are receiving the new local HD or digital TV signals over the air, there is also a slight possibility that you might be displaying an analog video signal but a digital audio signal, which would also cause a delay - but you'd have to go out of your way to cause this problem.
One final thought: Some home theater receivers have a setting whereby you can intentionally configure in a digital delay in the audio (in milliseconds), to compensate for the inherent audio delay in certain DVD players. The first thing I'd check, in fact, is to make sure this setting is NOT enabled on your home theater receiver.
