Movie buffs: Question about 2 films: The Color Purple and Godfather III?

Both movies were on tonight, and I was flipping channels between the two of them at the same time...and ended up missing some of the best moments in each one. Hence these questions:

Question 1: The Color Purple: Was it Whoopie Goldberg's husband's mistress who befriended her and helped her escape from his philandering and abuse....if so, how did they get to be such fast friends?

Question 2: What happens to Michael (Al Pacino) at the end? Is he shot to death in the opera house, or does he meet another fate?

Thanks for helping me catch up - next time I'll only watch one movie at a time. :-)

Question one. The husband's mistress was the first person in Whoppie's character's adult life that showed her love and taught her that she was lovable and she could be loved.

You probalbly missed it, because they only elude to it in the movie that the husband's mistress also became Whoopie's character's mistress, if you know what I mean. That is why Whoopi's character became so attached to her.

Didnt see the Color Purple, but Michael dies an old man sitting in a chair outside on his property. Not sure cause of death, heart attack or stroke most probably but you just see him slowly fall out of the chair and hit the ground. The End.|||Goldberg's husbands mistress really did like whoopies husband, but saw that he was no good. Whoopie did not even like her husband, so it was fine that he was sleeping with his mistress. Shug avery just liked whoopies character and in the book they were lovers. Not so much in the movie, although they alluded to it. The god father- Michael had to have went on with his life because he was in the sequals.
