How long does it take movies that are in the theater to come onto dvd?binocularsHonestly, there is no singular answer for that question.
It seems like a long time ago(pree 2000's) that you could guess fairly acurately when a movie will be released for home viewing.
But nowadays it can be from short as one month of the film leaving the theater, up to an entire year later.
But this question, among the others like it, will be short lived. Since Hollywood is finding out that DVD's make more $$ than the movies do in the theaters. Alot of studios are bringing more attention to the cheaper to produce, direct to DVD market. Stargate SG-1 for example will be having two movies put onto DVD, instead of the original plan of being theatrical releases.
For me, this is one of the only fears I have in life. I am a wanna be screenwriter/director and every time I envision seeing my film, I see it in a theater. It would break my spirit down if they got rid of that medium all together.

Definitely less than it used to! It all depends on how popular the movie is or not. They ususaly take longer to get the good movies on dvd as they keep them in the theaters longer.|||Usually about 3 months on average.|||like about 3 months|||I'd say approximately 4 to 6 months. We went and seen "Cars" in theatres June 06 and it came out on DVD November 06; if that helps any! ( I know exact days cuz we went and seen it fathers day, and it came out a couple days after my sons bday)
