Can an english native speaker pls tell me what is the difference between cinema and movie theater?concerts opera theater
I am not an English native speaker but I really know the diference:
cinema is the same that the movie theater
but cinema is in British English
and movie theater is in American English
it means that cinema is commonly used in Great Britain and movie theater in the USA (and probably in Canada, Australia and New Zealand)|||They are basically the same word.
Cinema is short for cinematography, the art of photographing and lighting moving pictures. Movie theater is literally a theater for watching the finished moving pictures.
Cinema is perhaps a touch more high-brow than movie theater and is more archaic. More people use movie theater, but most people nowadays just say they are going to the movies.
