Movie Musicals: Which should I see first? (Phantom of the Opera, Chicago, The Producers.)?

I am trying to pick which movie I should either buy or rent from Netflix first. Please feel free to give an order, or make helpful comments.

a.Phantom of the Opera (Which one?)

b.Chicago

c.The Producers

d.Other movie musicals a theatre geek would love.

I think all of these movie musicals are great, and if you are a big musical fan it wouldn't really matter which order you saw them in. However if you aren't a really big fan of the genre, I would suggest watching chicago first (because despite the songs, it is the kind of stuff you are used to seeing in movies), then phantom (make sure that you do get the musical version, not one of the old versions)then the producers (again, although I have heard the old one is very good, it isn't a musical - make sure you get the new one with nathan lane and uma thurman etc). The producers is really, really over the top, it's actually just like watching a stage musical (which is why I love it, but if you aren't used to watching musicals it can be a little in your face).

Then if you like them, go and watch as many other musicals as you can put your hands on! There are heaps and heaps to choose from. Nowadays very few musical movies are made, but back in the day they were the staple of hollywood. Try getting some of the really old ones with people like Judy Garland and Ethel Merman.
