NYC Movie theater crimes in late 80s/early 90s?





Amongst the violence in NYC at the time of the late 80s, early 90s, I heard there were lots of filth and crime going on in many theater showings such as New Jack City, Robocop 2, Batman, Total Recall and Die Hard among countless others. Is any of this true? I do recall a theater on Broadway showing Batman in 89 and it stunk of piss, but thats about it.

There was a section in NYC called "the Deuce" that consisted of old, run down movie theaters (also known as "grindhouses"). Often times there was crime at these theaters - drug deals, drug use, muggings, prostitution, etc.
