My son has an audition and is all worked up. He's trying out for Ryan in HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL. He's a tenor but wants some tips on how to act and sing like Ryan. Any tips?

What makes Ryan stand out in HSM is his over-the-top dancing and acting, so tell your son to really ham it up! In What I've Been Looking For, he has a huge, cheesy smile plastered on his face the entire time and uses exaggerated hand gestures and motions. All of his dance moves are really sharp, so make sure he is confident with his routine (if he needs to do one).

However, off the stage Ryan turns into quite a submissive and quiet kid- he feels overshadowed by his sister Sharpay most of the time, and so he won't be as animated as he is when he's singing and dancing. He does have his funny moments, though- I'm assuming you have the HSM movie, so just watch Ryan's parts and try to imitate his acting styles.

Ryan has a really strong and clear tenor voice, so it's good that your son can sing in that range. Think bright tones, nothing very dark.
