Musical Defenitions?





Hello. I need to analyze a song for my music class and I am having extreme trouble. I'm not a music person at all. I need simple defenitions to these words so I know what I am looking for in the song. Could someone PLEASE help? Here are the words:

Melody

Harmony

Rhythm

Beat

Tempo

Meter

Texture

Dynamics

Form

Instrumentation

Timbre

This is a very tough question to answer since so many of these could be defined as the same thing.

The Melody is what I'd say the entire feel of the song, is it happy, sad, angry.

Harmony is probably the easiest to describe, it's simply how all the sounds combine, you don't usually have just one instrument, they have to work together to make a good sound. Just think of an orchestra, they have all those sections and they all have to be in harmony in order to sound right.

Rhythm is could have a few definitions, first it could refer to the beat of something, or it could refer to something like harmony for instance the flow of the song.

Beat is what it is It's the essential part of hip-hop and electronic music. It's the toe tapping. the bum bum bum bum bum, kindda bad example but i think you'll catch the drift.
