Singing in a musical..?

I'm audtioning for my schools musical, "Guys and Dolls." There are a few parts based on only acting, or only dancing.--which is what I'm aiming for. We're required to sing for the directors, which is a problem for me. I have a horrible singing voice! What can I do to sound better for my audition? Sing loud, or have confidence even though I suck..?

Do NOT sing loud. Make your voice easy and sweet.

Articulate (pronounce words), In this particular show there are some chorus numbers which mean you would "blend" in if you had a reasonable singing voice.

Choose a song, of your choice, that is in your key, not to high not to low. Make sure you are hitting the notes right on.

Put emotion into the words, don just "sing". Be careful what song you pick. Auditioners do not like you to pick a song from the show they are producing.

It doesn't have to be a complicated song, even "over the rainbow" as long as you have some kind of voice. If you are hitting those notes, and pick a song in your range, AND KNOW the music and words, you have a good chance.

Take this as a learning experience, whether you get in to this show or not, and check yourself afterwards as to what you think you did right and what you could have done better.
