What can a young adult do w/ musical talent?
My son, 16 yo, has Autism Spectrum Disorder and doesn't do very well in school. He failed last year and MAY pass by the skin of his teeth this year. I'm so worried about how he will function as an adult. He is extremely talented w/ music. He plays the trombone and every other brass instrument there is almost effortlessly. He plays w/ several community bands because they have sought his talents. Can he make a life for himself somehow utilizing his musical talents? If all of his other grades stink, what do we do about further education? Im very worried about what kind of life he will have. Any advice is welcome! THanks ya'll.
What can a young adult do w/ musical talent?mr messed upThere are organizations that help people like your son to function in society. I would check with as many as possible. Get some input from them as to his options and perhaps start planning for some assistance for his adult life. Your son's musical talent may be a source of income as well as an outlet for him-but he will still require help with day to day and social functioning. As far as his education-if he is able to learn, I would continue it. Perhaps there are ways in which his condition can be accommodated.
