Is there any way to add search engines in Firefox like in Opera?

If the search engine you are trying to use doesn't have a search addon for firefox can you still add it?

In Opera (www.opera.com) you can just left-click and click add search and you can search using it in the drop-down box. Is there any way to do this, or something like it, in Firefox?

When you are visiting a website that you can add, you will notice downward-facing triangle in the search bar will turn green and get larger.

Then, when you click the search engine icon in the bar, the option "Add 'website you are at'" should be there.
