Schubert operas: One critic found there "a want of technical arrangement" and that the "harmonic progressions were too harsh; the instrumentation overlade; the choruses vapid and weak." Another critic felt that "the work was deficient in real melody." Ignaz and Ferdinand were his older brothers -- both violinists. Schubert's lieder was initially published by his friends after the composers work was rejected by several Viennese publishers. Schubert's two most famous song cycles were: Die Schone Mullerin and Winterreisse. Poet was Wilherm Muller. JM Vogl was the Viennese baritone. The K?rthnerthor Theatre commisioned Zwillingsbrüder and Theatre-an-der-Wien engaged Schubert to prepare still another opera, Zauberharfe. "Schubertiad" was what the group of Schubert and friends called their musical evenings.
