How can I prove to my boyfriend that he can trust me?

My boyfriend and I are in a long distance relationship. I moved away to attend a performing arts school in NYC, and he is back home. Unfortunately, he is in rehab. I am not a stupid girl, and if it wasn't for the type of person he is, I would have left him. But I care for him a lot, and he a truly genuine person. Anyways, I believe were both falling in love, but he tells me he's scared that I will leave him while he's in rehab (when he joined the marines, his ex girlfriend who he loved, left him while he was in boot camp)..and until he is sure that I will continue to hold him down while he's there, and until he trusts me fully, he doesn't believe he could say "I love you." Which is fine with me, I'm not ready to say those three words yet either. But it bothers me so much, and makes me upset that he's in a depressing place, and cannot trust me. I've tried to tell him many times I'm staying by his side, and that I will be faithful, but I feel like I'm not getting through. Any ideas?

I think you just need to cope with it, he's not in a depressing place, rehab is for you to get better... I've never known any one that comes out of rehab depressed. Some people can't completely get over something like that... especially if it was while he was in boot camp, it's hard to lose someone that you think loves you unconditionally, but when one condition comes up, they may not love you anymore. Just show him your feelings for him are unconditional. I think that would be the best way to show it.... encourage him, be happy for him, tell him how excited you are to see him (if you're going home for winter intersession)..... et cetera et cetera, i know some people are easy to get mad at or people are easily angered, but try to view everything positively for him, it'll make you happier and him happier and you'll be on your way to healthy relationship :D
