Music Major?
I am a rising junior (Grade 11) in high school. I have been studying guitar for three and a half years, focusing on classical guitar for three years and have been accepted into a fairly competitive and prestigious summer scholarship program for the performing arts for the past two years. I plan to attend this for at least one more. If I were to major in music, what well paying careers could I undertake? Please also suggest colleges in Canada and the states of NEW YORK, PENNSYLVANIA, VIRGINIA, AND WEST VIRGINIA.
Thanks so much.
Music Major?opera scoreHonestly, you're going to have a hard time finding a well-paying gig in the US. You might want to start studying a foreign language and consider studying/performing where music is actually appreciated, cultivated, and supported (i.e., Germany).
But don't let the risk of not finding a well-paying job keep you from studying music. You'll always find a way. If you're talented enough and dedicated enough (6-8 hrs practice daily for performance majors!), you'll figure it out. I wasn't dedicated enough, or (frankly) talented enough to study music at that level. I ended up minoring in music ed. I still play, and perform occasionally, but taking it professionally wasn't right for me.
